4 Fun Fall Activities In Colorado

September 22, 2016

Fall has arrived with golden leaves, crisp air and pumpkin-flavored everything! Saying goodbye to summer isn’t always easy, but there are plenty of fun fall activities in Colorado that’ll make this autumn the best yet.

1. Take in the Fall Colors

Colorado’s signature tree is the Aspen, and the best time to enjoy them in all their glory is in the fall. Hop in your car and go for a drive to see the golden, red and orange leaves rustling in the wind. One of the best routes to take is the Peak to Peak Highway and Scenic Byway between Black Hawk and Estes Park. Take advantage of the viewpoints where you can park and get a better look!

2. Step Back in Time

Black Hawk is one of the oldest towns in Colorado, and it’s easy to get a glimpse of its history, if you know where to look. Make your way around Black Hawk on a self-guided walking tour, being sure to stop at the First Presbyterian Church and the Black Hawk School House, both of which were built almost 150 years ago. Other notable points in town are the many saloons, the town mill and historic railroad. Try to imagine Black Hawk as it was in the 19th century, with prospectors flocking to the town in search of gold... it's easy to get swept away by the thought!

3. Embrace the Outdoors in Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Although fall isn’t the only time of year you can enjoy the splendor of this state park, it may be the prettiest. Pack your camping and fishing gear, or just lace up your hiking boots for a day of exploring one of the most stunning parts of Colorado. Golden Gate Canyon State Park is known for its 12,000 acres of forests, mountain peaks, streams and meadows. Don’t forget to bring a camera, because with golden leaves and clear skies, you will certainly have lots of beauty to capture.
