Break Away From Tradition With Unique Thanksgiving Recipes

November 17, 2016

At Lady Luck® Casino Black Hawk we think traditions can get a little, well, boring. That's why we like to bend the rules around the holidays by doing things a bit differently. The unexpected can be refreshing and exciting. Go ahead and mix up your Thanksgiving celebration with these three unique recipes. We're sure the changes will have your guests talking for years to come.

Hazelnut-Topped Celery Root Puree

Skip the traditional (and boring!) mashed potatoes this year. Instead puree some celery root. The bright celery flavor works well with nuts, in this recipe hazelnuts, but feel free to try with pecans or even almonds. The concept also works with other vegetables. Try using cauliflower or parsnips instead. Adding a puree guarantees there will still be a velvety mashed vegetable alongside your turkey, but this time with an unexpected, exciting flavor.

Herbed Feta Biscuits

A basket of dinner rolls is a common sight on many traditional Thanksgiving tables. The more daring cooks serve cheesy biscuits made with cheddar cheese. The out-of-the box cooks serve these Herbed Feta Biscuits. The flaky biscuits consist of familiar Thanksgiving Day herbs, but the addition of feta cheese adds a tangy flavor punch. The raw dough freezes well, so make a double batch to bake for breakfast sandwiches the next day.

Bacon-Wrapped Turkey Breast with Wild Rice Stuffing and Cranberry Apply Chutney

Skip the roasted turkey this year and go with an alternative turkey breast by using this easier, small-crowd friendly recipe. Any home cook who's hosted Thanksgiving for a small gathering knows roasting the store's smallest bird still equates to stacks of dirty dishes. Then there's the week's worth of turkey leftovers to eat, another turkey sandwich anyone? This turkey breast recipe maintains the traditional Thanksgiving Day flavors (so a certain aunt doesn't complain!), but is wrapped up in a tidy, bacon-wrapped package. Life is easier for the cook and tradition-loving guests are happy, we call that a Thanksgiving Day win.

If you really want to break with tradition while saving yourself stress from hosting duty, why not bring the family to Lady Luck Casino and dine at Otis & Henry's®?
